Summertime
Ahhh . . . Summertime. Enjoying the view last summer on Copper Mountain.
Summertime brings out the child in all of us, and perhaps most especially in musicians. We are typically so serious and involved in our day-to-day lives on the road that there is never enough time in the day. We rarely stray (especially Robbie) from
a 12-8am sleep schedule, we always eat right, and there is barely any time for Budweiser or even a nap. We hardly have the energy to make fun of each other.
But there is time for fireworks, and that is what I am expecting both literally and musically this summer. When I first heard that we were going to tour with Sound Tribe Sector Nine for three weeks I said to myself, "really . . . do they know how immature we really are?" They must, and that in itself sets us up for a great run of shows.
STS9 is one of the only bands in our scene that we have yet to play with . . . moe., String Cheese, Disco Biscuits, Yonder MT, The New Deal, etc. . . . we have played with all of them and have developed relationships over the years, but Sound Tribe has been ever elusive. When David Murphy sat in with is in Vegas last year I was lucky enough to hang out with him for a little bit and get to know the guy. The feeling I get is that we are very similar in many regards, and the bands have a lot more in common than I initially thought. I am looking forward to hanging this summer and see what happens musically.
So make sure you catch one of these shows when the tour rolls through your neck of the proverbial woods. Even if it is in a concrete parking lot and there are no trees, we will provide the shade factor. I think the band is ready after a nice break, and I’m sure we are all excited to get to see a great show every night in STS9 . . . so we'll be out there in the crowd with you confiscating glow sticks and trying to dance as best we can.
